Lovin' this swap! I'm drivin an 02 wagon right now. I think when the engine decides to go I wouldn't mind trying something like this. Only wish I could keep the AWD lol definitely going to keep following this!

Yeah, do alot of research and then start collecting parts. I researched a bit and thought I had it figured out but it's been more challenging than I thought. It's definently doable though. It's taking me alot longer to complete this project than originally thought.

It's interesting that you used a GTO pan, would an F body pan be easier in terms of rack relocation? I imagine that the car won't be much more nose heavy if at all when the swap is done. The Subaru motor isn't amazingly light nor placed far back in the chassis.

I dont have much of an update but I did a few things and fired it up only to realize i didn't have oil pressure, which is what i've been working on the past few evenings after work. Turns out, the engine just needed to be primed, which took awhile. If everything goes smoothly, I might be able to finish it up and drive it this weekend. Anyways, heres a pic...looks a little more finished.
I spent a good bit of time moving the engine around 2 or 3 times in order to get it in just the right spot to allow room for the clutch master cylinder, steering rack, transmission clearance, radiator...all while still shutting the stock hood. Im not new at all to metal fab, but I've never done an engine swap before, so this has been quite a challenge for me.
With the f body pan, rack relocation anywhere near where it was factory just wouldn't happen. The rack is about mid way of the engine, and the pan just hanged down too low. The rack is still a couple inches lower than it should be with the gto pan, but its as good as its going to get. The spindles will have to be modified to correct the steering geometry.

What are your plans for the car? Any engine upgrades planned?

Yeah I'll get some videos of it. I'd like to put a cam in it, but it'll probably stay stock. I still have to upgrade the diff. At some point, I'd like to get some better looking, and wider wheels and a few other things.

rack height
You may be able to get some of the angle on the rack back with a bump-steer kit. It will lower the outer tie-rods. The limit is the wheel. A larger diamer rim will give you more bump steer adjustment.
I'm on my third Subaru. 2012 Outback. For a DD I wouldn't have it any other way.
