what gauge wire for alternator?

Why is the Ford solenoid chasing you?
I'm not sure what a Ford Solenoid has to do with the alternator, unless you are saying that is going to be your common power lug. Like the horn relay in the following

At any rate I have 4 gauge on mine. Jap cars all seem to use that size wire. That is what was in the harness I grabbed when I got the alternator.

Using a Ford 'noid makes the wire for the starter hot only "during" cranking...nice Little option when running a trunk mounted battery and the 'noid in trunk next to it.
Anywho... I've been running an 8ga. from alternator to battery.
