78 trans am motor swap questions?
I recently acquired a 1978 trans am 400 4 speed it's mildly built but I get crappy fuel economy. Im only 17 so I'm on a low budget I wanna put LS motor in my trans am for fuel economy and power. What's a cheap motor and trans combo I would most likely rebuild the motor with heads cam & intake. But that will be a while and is there a swap kit for these motors? Sorry for the stupid questions never swap motors that it wasn't built for, use to helping friends with there jap crap.

Look at the stickies at the top of this forum(LSX swap guides) It'll get you rolling so you can make decisions. The cheapest and easiest to find is a 5.3 and transmission from a truck. My opinion is, get the conversion in the car(stock) without mods so you can enjoy it and get used to the LS platform. Then decide on performance or different motors down the line. You will over whelm yourself if you worry about heads, cams, intakes at this point. Just make it run and drive, trust me.
