I would give one of the OBDII "Y" cables a try. If you are just reading the information on the CAN BUS I don't see where it would be a problem. It's only $10 so not much to lose anyhow.

I like the gauges, not to bad looking. Im going to give them a try on my build. I spoke to a few people and theres not tach or speedo that will work with the 2011 ls3, 6 speed auto, except these

Speartech has a tach/speedo that works with the 6 speed auto. It even has a gear indicator for it.

I was looking into these today and really like the option. Has anyone else had experience with these? Are the coolant temp & oil pressure gauges reasonably responsive? Is the tach response immediate or does it have any sort of hesitation?
I think all I really care about are coolant temp, oil pressure, and tach.

I talked to Speedhut. They said the tach is not as responsive as a traditional tach and may have some hesitation due the rate of data transfer. They recommended using a traditional tach either connected to the coil trigger or the ECM tach output.
We also spoke about warning lights, which are integrated into some of the 2-1/16" gauges. They are programmable for upper & lower limits. There is not a way currently to hook up an external warning light with their system.
Speedhut sells a pigtail for hard wiring in the gauges to the CAN+ and CAN- ECM terminals, which allows an OBDII connector to remain open. Per the speedhut FAQs, the gauges may stop working when a scan tool is connected, but I don't know if this is the case when HPT, EFI live or other tuning software is connected.

That is good news as that is how I envisioned doing mine.

It's just a stereo connector, so you could probably get something at radioshack or cut up an old one if you don't want to buy theirs (not that it's expensive). I am pretty sure I'll go this route. I wish they had 2-5/8" gauges with warning lights. Only their 2-1/16" gauges have the warning lights built in.

FYI, the "y" adapter won't work for the Dakota Digital VHX gauges. The bim-01-1 cable must be unplugged to scan/read the computer. I'm sure future versions of their module will have a feature to switch back and forth automatically like the Speedhut or the Speartech gauges. It would be nice if both could get a signall....
On another note, has anyone been able to pull up oil pressure from the CAN Bus via the VHX gauges? I tried, but no signal. I verified that the computer is getting the signal with HPTuners.

I just bought the Speedhut speedometer. It looks to me all you have to do is "T" off the data lines. You are only reading the data with no writing. That way you can hook up HPTuners and also have the speedo working. I should know shortly.

I used a can bus speedo from speed hut in my car. I just wired into the back side of the OBD II connector, so my gauge always works, and I can still plug in HP tuners or any other OBD II tool.
I have never noticed the speedo seeming unresponsive or choppy, and that includes stepping on it and watching the speedo.

I won't know for awhile. The car is in the paint shop and when it comes out of there it goes into the upholstery shop. After that I will install the new speedometer.

I am doing a little bit of CAN BUS experimenting, so I checked out how often the speed hut gauge is "polling" speed. It is asking for and recieving a speed uptade approximately every 20 to 30 milliseconds.
So in the time it takes you to blink and eye (about 300-400 milliseconds acording to a quick google search), the gauge has recieved 10+ speed updates.

I'm extremely anxious to receive my full set from Speedhut to replace the Mazda gauges & the cable-driven speedo. Will post pics when they arrive. I'm still a few months away from start up though
