Alternator wiring
Hey guys I am in the process of installing a 2002 5.7 fbody engine and 4l60e into my 1980 camaro.I am missing the fbody alternator. After doing a lot of research i see I can install a 2003 5.3 alternator but I am not sure on how to wire the truck alternator since the fbody harness is only a 1 wire setup. Anybody here know how? thanks

I wired mine as follows: brown wire ( teminal b ) goes to dash indicator of car. Gray wire ( terminal c ) goes to switched 12+. I have not fired the car up yet, but I got this info off of a forum and also confirmed it with alldata. Originally in the donor vehicle the gray wire goes to a pcm regulated supply so it varies the voltage to control the output of the alternator. I have heard from some that you may need a resistor inline to this wire to get it to charge at max current

Your new standalone harness if that is what you have should have the plug for the alternator. The new pcm controls the alternator charging. On my 1992 truck i had a one wire setup so i just eliminated that wire and i connected the orignal truck alternator red wire to the post of the new truck alternator and my gauge works.
