2003 Toyota Tacoma LM7 Swap Todo/Source List
America, Go to the mall and SHOP!!!
DONE *) Buy LM7 engine, wiring harness, E38 ecu, radiator, radiator hoses, fuel pump & regulator: $1900 from a salvaged 2009 Tahoe Police Cruiser
DONE *) Buy transmission: $750 LT1 T56 (thank you craigslist)
*) Buy electric fan & fan shroud: trying to find a used two-speed electric fan from one of the following:
1990's Volvo 740
1990's volvo 240
1983-1994 ford taurus
200x ford focus
DONE *) Buy hp tuner: $300 (thank you craigslist)
*) Buy battery
DONE *) Buy OBDII port. Buying a female OBDII port was more expensive than buying an OBDII extension cable and adopting it to my needs. $9.90 for an OBDII Extension Cable, 5ft (144201) from Amazon fit the bill perfectly: *) Buy engine mounts

*) metal hole cutter for exhaust fabrication
Make It RUN!!!
*) engine on engine stand
*) overflow/fill tank
*) set up radiator
*) clean up engine
*) engine oil change

*) connect/test OBDII wiring
*) repair pinched o2 wiring
*) repair oher passenger side pinched wiring
*) connect MAF pigtail
*) set up testing fuel system
*) oil pressure check while cranking with starter
*) test engine starting
*) successful test run with VATS
*) HP Tuner:
- remove VATS
- remove second O2 sensors
*) get engine running reliably *without* VATS & O2 sensors
*) check hot oil pressure
*) test cooling system fan
*) perform compression test at running temperature
Prep
*) replace water pump, timing chain
Install-Prep
*) test oil accumulator
*) transmission conversion
*) install new clutch, flywheel & throwout bearing
*) mate transmission to engine
*) third-member rebuild
Installation Stage 1:
*) remove engine, exhaust, engine mounts
*) test-fit engine
Installation Fitment:
*) remove engine, exhaust, engine mounts
*) install shifter relocation kit???
*) swap oil pan???
Installation Stage 2:
*) test-fit engine
*) fab & install engine mounts
*) fab & install transmission mounts
*) electrical wiring
*) cooling system
*) exhaust
*) new driveshaft
Finishing Touches
*) gauges
- oil pressure
- oil temperature
- water temperature
- fuel pressure
- voltmeter
- air/fuel ratio
- vacuum
*) new cam & cam springs
*) VIN update in GM ECU
