My 66 Impala 5.3 swap
Hello, have a few questions I need a little help with on my 5.3 swap into my 1966 Impala.
Please go easy, I gladly call myself a noob but I pick up on stuff quick.
Here are a few questions, keep in mind I have a 2000 5.3 lm7
Fuel injectors/system:
Want something a little more than stock since I am running a ls1 intake and ported throttle body, cam and tune. Thinking just regular ls1/ls6 injectors or maybe ls2 if they worked?
Let me know if there are any decent after markets that don't break the bank or should I just got used injector or remaned ls1/6?
Also I see fuel rails with and without returns? How do I know which one I should use for my swap? With or without return? This one has me stumped.
How can I clean my maf sensor? Is screening it worth?
Accessories:
What's best for relocating the alternator down and the tensioner? Dirty dingo makes some but they look bulky. Thought maybe another engines dressing would work but need ideas of which ones...

Well, I can help you out with the rails....
Some (maybe all) truck fuel rails have a regulator at the rails. If you use an LS1 intake, or any car intake, you won't want to run truck rails, because they arch way up to go over the tall truck intake. You should probably do what most of us do, and use the Corvette filter/regulator. Mount it after the fuel pump somewhere, and run the return line from there back to the tank. Run the fuel line from the filter/regulator to to the rails like you would normally

If you have the LS1 fuel rails, you won't have the regulator.
On the truck rails, you can see the regulator in this pic. Ignore the red arrows. It's the circular rusty thingin the lower leftish area....

This is what you want to use:
It won't have the blue fittings though, you will need to buy those. And you don't need to mount it anywhere near the engine. Mount it anywhere after the fuel pump that is convenient.

Got the regulator coming with the gas tank so I am set there. Tank/pump/reg should be here this week.
Got a set of cheap headers but don't think they will fit based on Nicke's post but need to confirm my power steering box is stock since when I bought the car the seller told me it was updated (maybe smaller?) I hope to figure that out quick.

Farted around tonight and took the truck intake off and started cleaning things here and there, gonna be a task getting her ready for paint. For fun I mocked up the ls1 intake and took a look at what I have to move.

I seen that photo you posted on the other thread too, which was very helpful. that inlet position would be helpful to run my radiator but my only concern there is I planned on moving the tensioner pull in the same spot....I guess l could look around at both options and see what is more budget friendly.

Actually maybe this water pump will solve my problems.....it will let the throttle body sit right and move the inlet down....hmmmm

Why do you need another waterpump? You can get a new one, yes, and it will look better...but you can take a ball peen hammer and "massage" the truck pump at the water neck so that the TB doesn't touch. I did this on my 5.3 and it worked fine. Had to shave a little off the TB arm too but it was easy. Took maybe 10 minutes

Ok so I think I'll go with the massage method first since that's free, it just looked really tight when I was mocking it up. Plus I found the pulley repositioner that keeps the positioner and alt on top of the pow steering.
Speaking of mocking it up these coolant lines are in the way of my ls1 intake (it won't sit flat). I assume they are needed but need them slightly moved out of the way in some spots. Plus advice on valley cover would be good at this time, assuming ls1 valley cover is what I need from what I read.
Other news, I ordered the oil pan today and hope to get some differ headers tomorrow. Gas tank/fuel pump should be here Monday based on tracking number. Harness goes out Monday also.

Some FPFR have the 5/16" & 3/8" reversed. It doesn't matter which is in the middle. 5/16" is the return to tank. The 3/8" is the SUPPLY from the tank.

Noted, I'll use this for reference when I get the tank install going.
Also a BIG thanks to everyone else so far that has posted and helped me, being a noob is always tough but I don't think I could do this swap without ls1tech.com!
