Well we tried mocking up the engine in the bay last night. The Moroso pan we got just would not work with the OEM K member. So we ended up going with the Holley 302-1 pan. I really wanted to go with the 302-2 pan, but we are running a 4.1 stroke, and the 302-2 pan is only good for the stock 3.62" stroke.

When we went to put the motor in with the new Holley pan it was much better, but not quite there. We are using the Dirty Dingo Double D mounting plates w/ the Energy Suspension short and Wide brackets. We have it set up to be all the way back but it still will not clear. It looks like I will need to notch the K-Member a bit.

I was curious before I do decide to notch the K-member about these tubular aftermarket K -members. Is there one that you guys recommend to have better fitment, and also of course improve the overall ride?

I was planning on upgrading the suspension components anyway so this might be the motivation that I need. I checked out Ride Tech but it did not look like they had a K member replacement. Thanks for the help.

Moroso 20141

It says it fits the 65-72 Chevelles, but we were not able to get it to fit in our case.
We chose this pan b/c it specifically worked with larger stroked engines. I hope the Holley 302-1 pan works out.

I went up there to see the car back in July. I don't think you could drag me up there this time of year.

My understanding is that there is not a tubular K member for a 65 Chevelle due to the frame style. What those particulars are I honestly can not remember, but I am sure someone here can chime in on the particulars.

Update:
I had been having hell with finding an oil pan that would work on the 65. I had tried Moroso pan and Holley 302-1 pan. They both would have required me to raise the motor up, and that would have meant changing the drive line angle, and more cutting on the transmission tunnel.

I ordered the Canton 15-274 pan. Wow this thing is great. I got the motor down all the way to the frame mounts, and have plenty of clearance on the crossmember. I also got the 4L80E in without having to cut the tunnel.http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a5...D720/ry%3D480/

Are you keeping those wheels? If not, I'd be interested in them for my Cougar build. It looks like they have dual bolt patterns...

Can't you just section the crossmember and make it so you can use whatever pan you want?

The Mast conversion pan is what I used. I have heard good things about the AutoKraft LS oil pan too.

Getting past the crossmember is just the first part of the challenge. You also have to make sure that your centerlink and tie rods clear the pan when the steering is turned to the stops.

I have not decided if I am going to keep them or not. Send me a PM and we can iron out the details.

You could section out the cross member. However it might get into your steering tie rods, and also mess with your driveline angles.

Honestly, in terms of driveline angles, the lower the engine the better.

That's how mine is, but I also have a manual rack and pinion.

Default Oil Pan Solved

Well it has been a long time since my last post. Family stuff, work, etc. etc. Let's just get to the fun stuff and updates.

I went ahead and purchased the Canton 15-274. It cleared the cross member and had about 2" of clearance over the member and the pan does not hang too low.
