Default T56 in a 69 camaro with console?

i'm wanting to get a LS1 with a T56 from a forum member and was wandering if the t56 would work with a 69 Camaro stock console? if not, what have any of you done to make it work?

I've seen several put a t56 in a 69, but the ones I've seen dont have a console

wanting to plan ahead for many "road blocks" to come

thanks

I could not get the factory four speed console to work with the T56 in my 64 Chevelle. I ended up building my own console and then having it wrapped by my local upholstery shop.

Another option is to buy an aftermarket console. This guy has several styles to choose from for your car.

t56 with the viper tail housing places the shifter in the right location.

the cobra tailhousing works too but uses ford mounts and requires spacers to get the driveline angle right.

best bet is the new t56 magnum with the adjustable shifter.

yes it will work well , shifter comes up almost perfect in a auto console , you will have to cut a rectangle hole in the trany tunnel for the shifter to come thru and the top of my trany , out of a 96 z28 had a rubber stopper the touches the trany tunnel on the bottom , I made a custom cross member

Thanks,
I made the console from thin plywood and formed it to fit the way I wanted it to.

Bigarmzz, I went through the same dilemma. I thought about moving the console back, but my aftermarket seats are too wide and the console wouldn't fit because it gets wider in the front. Next I looked at shifter handles that move the stick forward, but none had a long enough forward movement. Then I looked into a kit that moves the shifter up to the forward inspection port, but I would still need an offset shifter that moves the stick over and back. Using this, the shifter handle would move up and down as you go through the gears. I finally decided to leave the trans alone, get rid of my original console, cut a new hole in the floor, weld up the old hole and will eventually get one of the consoles from the company 1964SS mentioned. Hope this helps.
