LS1 alternator questions
I'm doing a conversion in my 87 Chevrolet truck with a 2000 5.7 LS1 out of a Z28 Camaro, I bought a stand alone wiring harness. I'm down to wiring it up and hooking up my truck harness and hopefully it will run! My question is on the alternator there is only one wire coming out of it and it goes to the pcm. I am puzzled as to how does the battery get charged? I haven't really ever done a conversion like this , any help would be great.

The small wire coming from the PCM to the alternator would be the exciter wire which turns on the alternator. On the back of the alternator there is a stud with a 10mm nut, this is the alternator output. Go to an automotive audio store and buy 6 foot of #8 multi-strand wire. Run this wire from the alternator to the starter solinoid terminal that the battery is also hooked to. Done! If you are running a voltmeter (recommended) you can get power to it just about any keyed source.

Thanks for the help, I probably just run the wires off the Camaro if I can find them . When we pulled the motor and transmission out of the Camaro I was under medication for a back surgery so I don't remember taking it apart lol .

On your 87 with the standalone harness the one wire on the plug will be all you need along with the one big wire on the lug to the battery as stated above . Pcm will control it .No need for resister . As far as your gauge you wont have to do anything . When you hook main power to the rest of the truck up as was before your gauge will do its thing .
