Default 97 Vette LS1 questions

Hey guys,

New to the site, loooking for some information on doing a LSX swap to my 72 C10 Long bed. I have found a complete engine assembly (Engine, Trans, Tourque tube computer and harness) from a 97 Corvette, the first year of the LS1, and C5 model. My question is if I remove the Torque tube will the engine and trans mount directly together? Since i wont need that part obviously. From what ive seen it is just a 4L60 so i cant see why it wouldnt but just thought I would ask.

Any other specifics i should know about this year or model. Im not looking at boosting this engine or going real high horse power for right now more just reliability. Also just checking but would you know if this for sure is drive by wire or regular Cable throttle body? i havent checked the engine out yet.

Thanks and looking forward to finding a lot more information!!!

The trans will not bolt up. You would need a new bell housing, tail housing and tail shaft. These transmissions are nothing like a normal engine mounted 4l60e. I would stay away from 1997 year as well. The heads aren't that great and the ECM is different from the 99 up model 411 computers.

Your best option would be to find a 5.3 or 6.0 pullout package deal with trans.

Everything from the flywheel back is of no use to you,the front drive, intake and oil pan are not worth a premium when a dirt cheap truck 5.3/6.0 will slide right into your project. If its a smoking once of a lifetime deal, grab it,part it out and put the profit towards a truck pullout.

I like what TFI said. If it is a great deal as in only a few hundred bucks more than a 5.3 then why not. It is lighter and 799's or 243 heads wake up that 5.7.
