08 LH6 5.3 T56 swap questions
The LH6 wrecking yard motor I found did not have the E38 ECM. I found an 07 4.8 truck harness and ECM (and TCM) cheap so I picked it up. Since I am deleting DOD, I want to run the 4.8 harness. I have done the harness mods using LT1swap.com instructions and have everything mocked up.
I would like to have VATS removed and fire it on the engine stand.
The local shop that does E38 tuning can only do work through the OBDII port so they can't remove the VATS.
Here are my questions:
1: If I pay a different HP tuner user to remove VATS, etc, do I get a registration code or something the local tuner can use or would I have to register the ECM again?
2: will the original tune for a 4.8 be close enough for a base to tune off of or does the tuner need to download another base tune to start off?
3: when I crank the motor over, I see RPM on my scan tool but have no spark. (VATS still enabled). I have heard that VATS should kill fuel after 2 secs or so. Could VATS be killing my spark? It does not try to fire on starting fluid. The fuel pump primes and fires when cranking.
I have done a cam swap and it will have free flowing intake and exhaust with only front O2 sensors.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

If I dont "own" the HP Tuner registration code, would I have to pay the local timer for another registration when he does the in car tuning?

I dont know any tuners or much about it. everybody has opinions so get many answers. I had LT1Swap do 2 pcms, 1 for my L33 5.3/4L65E in skylark & just getting one done for 2000 5.3 int squarebody. He done both removing normal stuff with a street tune he uses. He seems to be busy doing it and Im happy with whats been done.
