Rebuilt LS1 vs LQ9 Swap - 99 Z28
I am just planning ahead. Not doing anything right now.
The main factor about this swap is that I won't be doing it myself. I don't have the skillset, space, or especially the time to drop or replace the motor so I'm expecting to pay inflated costs... I don't mind this AS LONG AS IT WORKS. Since this all needs to be warrantied I am very skeptical about outsourcing a vendor for the motor other than the shop thats going to do the work because if I get a lemon or even if the shop screws it up, the charge goes on me.
My car is going to be geared toward being a Daily Driver and always will be. Maybe it will see some track use but thats not its primary function.
I would "like" about 400 RWHP. I'm sure a bolton LS1 can easily attain this.
My current motor has 192k miles and although it still runs strong I'd like to plan ahead.
I am trying to decide which route is better.
Rebuilding the LS1 or dropping in an LQ9. Both can be done for around the same price as average price for rebuilding an LS1 is about 4k, which is about the same for a reman 0 mile long block LQ9. I'm staying away from used motors.
The LS1 is a lighter motor, by almost 100 lbs, but the LQ9 makes up for it because it has more displacement and can use the L92 Heads.
Which way would you go?
(and yes Im aware the transmission will also need upgrading aswell as the rear axle.)
