Default firewall harness pass thru

I'm trying to figure out the best way to pass a integrated painless harness thru my firewall.I have a 70 el camino with a lsx engine and a t56.the manual that comes with the harness says that i need to cut a 1 5/8 hole for the largest plug that goes to the transmission thru the firewall.I was looking at the seals it grommets, billet aluminum pass thrus one was round and the grommet size was 1 1/2 to small the other billet one was oval and made for efi harnesses, they are very proud of it also for 90 bucks.anyway what i have seen in different posts guys using the seals it grommet just over the intake towards the right side it looked ugly and like heat and rain might pass thru it.Anybody have any better ideas and pics of how i can do this a better way thanks.

There are 2 options if you don't want to cut a giant hole. I always prefer to mount the ECM in the engine compartment for this very reason, but many times the harness length does not accommodate that. That's why I get my harness' with a custom length so I can mount anywhere. If you don't have the option to mount in the engine compartment, consider drilling a small hole or use an existing small hole and de-pin the connector. Just take a bunch of pictures of where the wires are and take some notes. It also helps to do the job start to finish in one day in case you have a brain fart.

I like the seals it split grommet. It works great for me. I cut my own hole in it (carefully).

Kennard industries sells all sizes. I like the 2" od. It will fit all efi wires through it...

Default Firewall passthru

Here is mine on the '39. Tried to keep it in the valley so that it would blend in. Also note the regular wiring passthru

Default wire pass thru

Just by luck I got an LM4 which is all aluminum BUT the dipstick goes thru the pan and not the block. When I changed the pan I drilled the block boss to accept a Lokar dipstick. Next problem was to make sure the length was correct so I changed oil and new filter, run the engine a bit then cut the dipstick to measure correctly. All said and done there goes a weeks worth of time and build just for a damn dipstick!

Just noticed the trans dipstick too. Also a Lokar. Measured the original and cut the Lokar to fit. Not easy filling the trans and not easy reading the dipsticks but without oil or trans fluid on the garage floor and no blue smoke no need to check often.
