If you want to run vacuum-assist brakes, you will need a vacuum pump. The LT-series engines are not big on vacuum production. The trucks have an engine-mounted pump, but you can't use it with the DD accessory drive or motor mounts.
Thanks for the headsup 71BF! definitely need to figure out the vacuum assist for the brakes or run the hydraboost......

The X body was the Nova platform and all that would be in the was would be the floor hump at the most, so I would think you will be alright with an F body, a little finessing with a hammer should be all it should take.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. For a minute there I thought my project was about to get derailed because I don't want to hack the car up too bad. Some notching and massaging I can live with.

Just looking at the 6L it appears to have grown more below the crank line than above but it is BIG. I will definitely have to move the engine as far forward as possible to minimize interference in the tunnel.

On another note, how do you guys plan on pumping fuel from the tank?

They run a normal high pressure fuel pump to the engine mounted pump, so however you would do an older engine fuel system would work.

Thanks. this would be a lot more simple. I'm trying to get the harness done and this was a big holdup.

I paid 3k for my 2015 L83/6L80 full pull with less than 5k miles. Not exactly a bargain but A lot less than the 100k mile ls1/4l60 combos are going for

You did good. I thought I did ok but maybe not. There's not much demand for these engines now but guessing there will be as the aftermarket catches up.

I agree man these will be the sought after swaps !! I'm thinking about using an electric vacuum pump with a regulated switch if it gets below 15hg it will turn on until it hits 20hg and turn off automatically. At least that will take care of the brakes. Working in the bracket side of things and figuring out the steering might try to do an electric steering conversion?

What are you other guys doing for these two things?

Most likely will do the same for vacuum. The steering I'm not sure. Right now I think it will be adding a pump with a remote reservoir. I am researching electric options since I'm not sure if I can get both a/c compressor and ps pump on the motor.
Have you figured out shifting?

It looks like Speartech is using a shifter from a 2010-2013 malibu with the TUTD buttons but not sure how that will interface with the 6L80E? Anyone else have any info on this?

Yeah no kidding that little V6 is putting out what the old 4.8 motors put out!!

When you say saturn vue box for the steering is that the electric steering conversion?

I'm going hydroboost. A lot of people use the hydrobooster from the Chevy Astro. Another added plus is that you get more room on the firewall because theres no huge vacuum brake booster.

That's a avenue I'm going to explore because there are a lot of vans in the pic a part!

The ECM controls the 6L80E, so the the tap up tap down is controlled by the ECM. I'm using a 4L65E, so I have to use a separate transmission control unit.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and purchase the tap up and down conversion from spear tech because I already have the Malibu shifter

The Saturn Vue electric assist motor assembly is what he's talking about. There was a seller on eBay selling a kit that has the wiring harness and the controller to adjust the assist. The thing about this swap is you have to use a manual steering box, and you have to cut up your steering column. The motor installs underneath your dash. I don't think I have enough real estate on my El Camino to accommodate that motor.

Quick Reply: Anyone swap a newer 5.3 (L83)??
