Default Worlds First: 416" ls3 twin turbo in Cadillac XLR

I hade a forged 416" ls3 from my ttix c5 vette. I rebuilt the motor and stuffed it in my xlr. The car was a nice 2009 one owner car from texas.

Now its better.

Cool, can we get a few pictures of the entire car and a driving video?

It would take about 40 hrs of labor to due the swap , build the custom wire harness and install the turbo kit. Ialso had to take care of some maintenance issues which were extra.

The custom operating system cost about another $800. Basically my tuner took out the northstar engine segments and plugged in the zr1 engine segments.

The inital tune put down about 600 rwhp throught the quiet stock xlr mufflers.
I tortured the stock trans and fried the clutches! No biggy, it had 130k on it.

I swapped in a used 6l80e from a vette to get the car rolling quickly. I alos changed the exhaust to the corvette npp system to keep the quiet at cruise and loud when I get on it.

I also added the knock sensors back into the harness.

The car put down 756rwhp/783 rwtq !!

But i ran out of fuel due to my stock pump/ kb boostapump set up. The tuner took all the timing out after 5200 rpm.

Not bad for pump gas. But this tune is not safe. I have to upgrade my fuel pump. Currently I am looking at the racetronix diy twin system.

The car is a blast to drive!

Currently its at the body shop getting some new paint.

Did you have any issues using the stock pcm? I'm in the process of doing my swap and was wondering if the pcm was any different than the vette as far as pinout and retaining the luxury comforts of the xlr. Did you keep the factory suspension? do the xlr a/c, power steering etc, lines bolt right up?

yes stock ecm, but custom operating system and engine harness. I basically removed the northstar engine wiring components and rewired the harness to a ls9 configuration.

everything in the car works, suspension, dash, gauges.

The ls3 accessory drive works without issue.

The car is currently in the body shop getting painted. When I get it back I am installing the racetronix dual pump system. I basically ran out of fuel with the stock pump and kb boostapump.

Default update

The car is done (sort of).

The car was repainted Black Cherry last spring.

Mechanically, the trans was upgraded. I put bigger clutch plates in the 4-5-6 drum and upgraded the input shaft to a billet unit.

I have a racetronix twin fuel pump set up with 2 in tank fuel pumps.

Dewitts aluminum rad

I decided to go with some 18" ccw wheels. 295/45/18 Nitto NT05 in the rear and 285/40/18 goodyear eagle super car tires in the front (these are the rear tires for c5 zo6)

I detuned the car for the street. on a 10 lb wastegate spring it put down 700/710 to the rear tires.

I only had one chance to track the car this summer 11.2 at 138mph with a 2.1 60 ft. It was spinning untill the 1/8 mile. No traction

The car is a blast

Is the drivetrain on the XLR similar to the Corvette? Front engine/rear tranny? Would it have been easier to put the Corvette tranny in, in the first place?

Drive trains are identical except for the torque tubes. The torque tube is specific to the XLR or Corvette. When I did the swap initially I wanted to leave the original transmission in the car because I was changing so many other systems . When the original transmission Failed I put in a used Corvette transmission to get me around. I had the original trans rebuilt with some heavy-duty parts.

So was the Corvette tranny more or less a bolt-in ?

Beautiful car, very classy looking - rims are perfect. You need some nitto NTo5R's out back broseph. You aren't hooking **** with those tires on there now.
