A-Body Trans Tunnel ?

A-Body Trans Tunnel ?
I'm planning to run a 4L60e trans with my LS1 swap, in a 68 Chevelle. My question relates to clearance issues with the Trans tunnel.
I have my rusted-out Floors removed and am about to Install the new Floor Pans this week so if I need to enlarge the Trans tunnel I should do it now. Can anyone tell me what area of the Trans Tunnel needs to be enlarged to better fit the 4L60. I'm putting in a Full Floor Pan so it would not be much of a job to enlarge...... if I know where to start. I'd like to have extra room down there so I can position the engine any where I need to.
Thanks, Tony

At the very most your tunnel will need a bit of persuation with a hammer. I have a 700r4 which is the same externally as a 4l60e in my 67 which has a smaller tunnel than your 68 and it fits fine. I doubt you will even have to massage it with a hammer. A t-56 however, would require cutting the tunnel but you should be fine.

A 4L60E or 770 R4 will fit your 68 tunnel just fine, the TH400 is tighter in a few places to compare. I had a 700 in my 71 Monte Carlo which has the same floor pan as the Chevelle from 68 - 72, the only tight spot was I had to lower the trans to do a governer change.

You should be ok with either 4L60e or 700R4.. T56 will need cutting and 4L80e is questionable, but I think most have cut the tunnel.
If your really worried, as q-ship stated. There are a few tight spots.. you might want to cut or hammer them spots now. Maybe a few of the A4 guys will give a few hints on where those tight spots are and you can map them out on your tunnel now to modify.
