Default Ls1 into a 81 monte carlo- how much $$$

i know it would be hard to give an exact figure, but i'm wanting to know from those that have done this. About how much would i be looking at if i wanted to get the drivetrain in and make it streetable. IE. lsx and m6. I'm not worried about the cosmetics just yet.

I have a 81 monte so cost of it - price of the car.

I want a rough estimate so i know what i would be getting into if i went that route.

alot depends on how much work your gonna do yourself, and which engine you actually end up getting, anywhere from $3000 all the way to $10,000. like i said if you do all the work then that saves alot of money. I spent $7000 on mine by the time it was done and streetable. We were not able to do every bit of the work though, and that includes the cost of the engine $4350. Good luck, and dont forget about the 5.3's & 6.0's they can be had alot cheaper than ls1's.

I'm pretty sure i could do most of it. Aside from the wiring, which i could do if i had instructions. How much cheaper are the 6.0's? i was wanting a m6 for the fuel econ, but would stick with stalled a4 if it were a lot cheaper.

I havent been looking at the prices alot latly. but they should be less, you could just pick one up from a truck then get a M6 from a gto or f-body. The harness work really isnt that hard.

You can pick up 6.0L`s complete with wiring and pcm and accys for around $1000. 4l60E autos go for between a couple hundred and up depending on if they are stock or fresh rebuilds or built up transes. T56`s are a bit more expensive, figure 1000+.
