My LT1 to LS1 Fbody Thread
Well my conversion is getting pretty close to being done. Here is the info.
Car:
1996 Camaro Z28 that started its life as an automatic lt1 car. Here is the current mods.
59k Mile LS1 engine, 224/224, QTP Stage 2 heads, LS6 Intake.
Dynatech Long Tubes
Off Road Y
Magnaflow Catback
T56 with a power tower,short throw,ls6 clutch
Lowering Springs
AGX 8 way adjustables
Drilled Slotted Rotors(ls1 front brakes)
Ford 9 Inch 3.45 ratio(from the auto turbo lt1) Might end up changing out.
Boxed LCAs
Adjustable Panhard
For my Conversion I had a complete parts car to pick and choose from. I used the stock lt1 fuel tank with a vette filter/reg with ls1 front lines. I sent the harness out to speartech to get modified for plug and play. I will hopefully be able to get it wired and running this weekend. Then I need to find someone to make me the ac lines. Here are the pics that I can get good now ill get some on a hoist some day after its running.

Well hit my first snag so far. I went to fire the motor up with the speartech wiring harness I put on. Everything primed up all the normal lights came on, went to turn the key prayed and failure. I turn the key and NOTHING happens doesnt click try to start or anything. The only thing that is different from the ls1 car is the negative battery cable i put on doesnt have the battery to chassis ground on it. Could this be the problem or what else should I look for. Battery has a full charge in it. Lets here some suggestions.
I dont have any wiring hooked up to my clutch pedal and I havent touched any of the a4 shifter wiring. Could it be a neutral saftey switch on the old a4 wiring messing with me?

Yes, if your engine harness is for a different transmission that what was originally in the car you will have to do something with the neutral safety switch before it will crank. You can short the wires together for now, but the proper fix would be to take the neutral safety switch wires from the console and extend them down to the clutch pedal switch.

My swap is running excellent. We are looking to do another swap into a 97 trans am. I was wondering if we used the ls1 tank what all would be needed to keep the factory fuel gauge working in the 97? Hp tuners has a setting in there I know could we just change that and get by?

Great swap man. I wish I had a donor car when I was doing my swap.
About the 97 gas tank question, I had Speartech do my harness (99 pcm), and he said all my dash gauge functions would work just fine, just need to rescale the pcm for the tach. I just finished my swap so I don't know if my gas gauge is working or not, haven't driven it enough because it's not insured/tagged etc...
