3 wire vs. 5 wire maf
i will be using a 99 harness/computer on a 98 LS1. I know I have to change the coolant temp sensor to the 99 and later style. Can the harness be modded to accept the 5 wire maf so I don't have to use a separate IAT?

Yes it can, I've done it in Impala SS's with the LT1 computer (figured out the tables, wasn't bad). The 2 wires to the temp sensor in the new MAF can just be hooked up directly to your old wiring (transfer function for the IAT is exactly the same). The MAF itself has different tables that you will need to program into your PCM. It's a much cleaner looking MAF, and it allows you to ditch the other IAT, and have one less wiring pigtail...nice way to clean up the engine bay a bit more imho...just make sure you get the correct pins for the newer style Delphi GT series connector, it's not metripack.

3 vs 5 wire maf
Thanks, Mike454SS. I appreciate the information. I agree that it looks like a much cleaner install. Being new to LSX engines, I am assuming that whomever reprograms the computer and mods the harness will know what tables and connector are needed?

Thanks, LS1MCSS. I already have the maf. What is the adapter harness? Does it use the original 3 wire maf and IAT connectors? Where is it available? Sorry for so many questions but all this is new ground for me.
