You may not need to get to it all that often, but it sure as hell beats havin to drop the fuel tank. The carpet covers the patch work so no one knows unless you tell them. I dont have the measurements handy, but if you dont get them I'll post them.

One word... Fumes. Unless your exhaust exits out the rear.... just drop the tank.... run as much of the gas out as you can first obviously and its not so bad dropping the tank.... looks like that would take a lot of work cutting that hole. will probably be louder in the car too.

I cut mine in my 'vert and it didn't take long at all with a rotary tool. Broke about 5-7 cutting disks.
With the hole, I put a wooden board over it (used to mount an amp) and then the carpet. You should at least put a board over it.
I didn't notice any extra noise nor any extra fumes at all (car is mostly stock).
