ET Streets - what tire pressure to use at the strip?
I have an '01 C5 A4. I am using 26 x 11.5 x 16 ET Streets. Total race weight is 3440 lbs. and the suspension is stock. Also, 3.42 gears in the back and making 380 rwhp.
Question: what range of tire pressures on these tires seems to work best at the strip? I have just begun experimenting but I can't seem to get the right pressures for consistent 60' times. Any and all ideas are welcome!

What you are shooting for is the maximum pressure you can have in the tire and still hook up.
What I usually do is start out at around 18-20 psi then lower it from there 2-3 psi at a time as necessary. If it hooks well at the initial 20psi you may increase it a little bit. If it still hooks up it will eliminate some of the flex in the sidewalls and make the car more stable on the big end.
I have run as little as 10psi before on poorly prepped tracks to cut good 60' times.

Looks to me like I may have been starting too low on my tire pressure at the track. I'm gonna try your suggestion next time at all of the tracks I run out around here.
I think I also need to do a better job on my burnouts - be more consistent - and start at around 20 lbs. and move down from there in 2 lb. increments. That sound about right?

Sounds good, you are correct about the burnouts. ET Streets aren't like radials where you just turn them over a few times to clean them off. It is necessary to hold them at sustained RPM until smoke is coming off. Heating them up properly can really make all the difference in the world. Good luck. <img src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I am going out to Caalifornia Speedway this Saturday to try out these ideas. Jeremy, as always, thanks for the help.

Gary, you need to follow Jeremy's instructions. If you don't already have one, a line-loc is esential to the consistent heating of the tires. I am about to move up to ET streets with my 4.10's, but the BFG's were fine to now ( 1.65 - 60' times )

Red - apologies for my ignorance as potentially reflected in the following question: are there any problems associated with line-locks and the ABS on our cars?
I am thinking that it may be un-related but thought to ask, just in case. I have contemplated it but am getting conflicting feedback from many racers about the pros and cons of line-locks. Your thoughts?
