Who's Ran 12's Stock Or With DR Tires Only

When I said "major publications", I was referring to more general car magazines that a lot of people read, like Motor Trend, Road & Track, Car and Driver, etc., etc. All of us have seen the muscle car enthusiast magazines and the times they were able to crank out of these, but the average car guy isn't going to read too much into those specific types of magazines, which was my point in my other post.

When my 01 WS6 was brand new I went 13.1@110 100% stock. I 0nly made 4 or 5 passes in stock trim but I have no doubt that it would have run 12s stock.
The next weekend I went back to the track with just a lid (stock filter) and went 12.9@ 111. Then I put Nittos on it and went 12.7.
Then the next mod was Mac headers and Y pipe but the rest of the exhaust was still stock and I went back to regular radials and the car went 12.40s @ 114.
I have always said that with nothing more then tires and free mods a 6 speed ls1 car is a mid 12 second car.

The reason most people claim 12's wasn't normal when stock is because it wasn't... Simple. I was more than just an avid racer during the entire run of 4th gens. I can't begin to remember how many passes I've seen. I can remember exactly how many 12's in factory stock form I've personally seen though.... None.
I remember reading of the ET posted with the photo in post 23... I think it was Evan Smith driving. It was a big deal at the time. Apparently it still is. That said, Evan might just be 1st in line to tell you, 12's wasn't an everyday thing with an actual stocker. He knows how to drive.

I went 13.146 with a shitty 2.0 60 foot tune only. Id imagine on DR's itd be a solid high 12 car. However im not brave enough just yet to throw DR's on my 117k mile 10 bolt.
13.5XX @ 103.XX was the best in full stock trim with a 2.1 60'. This was in 1500+ DA in an A4 car. 35XX with driver and full tank.

My 2000 Z28 when stock to the paper air filter and 245 good years went 13.1@107.
The next spring I put a slp lid, k&n, 160 stat and I tuned it myself and went 12.8@109.
Added gears, dr's, headers and exhaust and went 12.4@113
Put a 9" with a slick and went 12.2@113
My 2002 Formula is a auto car and I bought it with slp lid, k&n, 160 stat, LT's, tsp ory (stock exhaust) and I tuned it before I went to the track on 275/40/17 torque thrust it went 12.6@109
Cam, stall, tire in 2500 da went 11.7@115 blowing out the stock 90k mile trans in the process.

So, is there a chance my '02 WS6 A4 may make it into the twelves on street tires? It's a low mileage (38k) bolt-on car: coated long tubes, ORY, Magnaflow C/B, lid and a tune.
An Edge 3600 is on order.

True, Evan Smith ran a bone stock '99 Z28 6 speed to a 12.8 back in the day, he was also the one piloting the heavy SS to 12s in the summer in that article shown in post# 23 above.

Back in the old days, a number of regulars went high 12's bone stock.... Just a handful. And there were many who went 13.doh - 13.2 bone stock, MN6 or A4.
I drove a Formula with lid, cutout and !spare to a 12.85@110 back in 2000, and a similar TA the same day I got a 12.97 out of it.
I once asked Evan about the 12.88 he went with the 1999 Z/28 MN6 car, and he told me he slipped the clutch out at 4000... sounds about right if you think about it.
