Default Cam Only This Bitch Is On A Diet And Getting A Makeover-UPDATE 5/1 PICS

Well here's my max effort at going after the cam only record that has been standing for sometime now. My goal is to have a 2700lb raceweight. According to some I currently weigh in at 2500 lbs but this is completely false. The car will be recieving percy's lexan both front/rear and the Burkhart manual brake kit. As far as free weight: I cut the extra metal on the cowl area flush to the windshield, the brackets where the hood shocks attatch got chopped off,and the door bars were removed. As far as the make over, the car is in the process of getting painted. The condition of the paint wasn't so good and the dent got pretty annoying. Also I guess I didn't like the "wax car" nickname some jealous kid/guy gave it, so I figured i'd atleast give him a reason to talk lol I'm doing all of the prep work myself and a friend of mine at the body shop will be priming and painting everything in a booth(all ppg materials). So yeah this bitch will have a new look and weigh a bit less. Anyway here are some pictures of the progess, enjoy. Sorry the shop seems a bit cluttered.

Hood shock mount removed(might be hard to see)

The windshield removal tool was well worth the $19.

Oooh more weight to get out

Yeah coach i'm lucky i'm friends with someone who works at a body shop. I get materials at cost and one heck of a deal to get it painted in a booth. As far as a time period the body will be primed monday and then I got a ton of wet sanding work to do I'm looking to have it painted within 2 weeks. Then we can get the motor and trans in and back to the track!

LOL yeah. I actually did the title as a joke cuz I remembered you're old thread. I'm going to do the race harness. I've probably been working on it for about 3-4 weeks(certainly not everyday). It's alot of work but the end result will be worth it. When it gets painted we have to do it in 2 parts cuz of all the panels being off. So I plan on doing the body, hatch, spoiler, and rear bumper. This way I can get all of that on the car and start putting the motor and trans back in before i get the doors and the front end done. The motor and trans should only take a day.

Nice, there's more to cut though. Trunk floor needs to go, you should pull the top and hole saw under there too while you're at it... if you want to go for it, go 100%.

NNice work though, should get it plenty light for what you want to do. LW spindles, if you haven't done that, tae a ton of weight off too.

Lookin' good man. I haven't made that kind of effort on my trans am, kinda cringe when thinking about it.
Your car is coming along great and you are doing it very nicely. Solid build!

mini-tub it now if you can, before you paint it just for the sake of not hurting the paint later from the sparks, etc. Also a good way to pull another good bit of weight out of the car. Scrape that stuff off under the upper dash too, that's heavy stuff.

I htink it was janzer that weight his mintub work, and it was somthing like 35-40#s saved. it was a whole garbage can of metal cut out, and a few piles of grinding dust.

****, I missed that upper dash pad. Looks like a bitch with the windsheild in still.

Mini-tubing the car is kind of one think I didn't want to do. But man that narrowed rear alone is a ****-ton of weight.

I took the dashpad out with the windshield in. I also cut all of the excess metal in front of the windshield off before removing it. I'm heading down to the shop now to get some more weight out before it goes to get primed tonight.

Cut the trunk floor out, it's a good bit of weight, the minitubs, and that are well over 50 lbs.
