Question MSD 2 step question

I've tried the search but couldnt find anything. I've never used a 2 step and was gonna order the msd unit but wanted to understand how it works. It seems pretty easy to install plug and play under the hood and splice into the clutch switch. but what i dont get is it always active? or do i need to wire a toggle switch for it or something? and why is the unit called a 2 step when it seems you can only have one input? Sorry if this is a stupid question but i have no experience with 1/4 mile racing so i'm learning as i go. Thanks

yes you can splice in a switch to deactivate it, the instructions are pretty straight forward:
i offer free overnight shipping on this two-step, just call when ordering

It's one of the easiest electrical pieces I ever hooked up we did our to activate on the trans brake button but you put it on 4500 or so put it to the floor and let go it's a ride .

Does the box then mount under hood? Or go thru the bulkhead?

I mounted mine on the passenger strut tower above the battery & wired it to the clutch switch. Didn't use any deactivation switch

plug n play......

set it for the rpm you want to come out at,push the clutch in & floor the gogo pedal & it will stall the motor out to what rpm you set it at.....

i have used mine from 4000rpm up to 7200rpm at the track.

works great!

this might be an extra noob question but I'm not launching at really high rpm so how will i be able to do a burnout without a on/off switch?

.

It must have an on-off switch or you can't go down the track.
That's why they said they tied into a clutch switch.
Either a push button like from a trans brake, clutch switch, micro switch on the brake pedal,
but you need something or it will engage every time you hit the chip.

What color wire on the clutch switch should be tapped into? How many wires are on the switch? I thought I've seen 2 or 4 wires depending on options/year. Anybody ever get a singal from the PCM? Any benefits on getting the signal from the PCM vs the clutch switch itself? Thanks.

I understand that the clutch switch engages the system but I'm currently running street tires so I'm only launching at 2500-3000 rpm so do i need to add a inline on/off switch to be able to drop the clutch from higher rpm for burnouts?

you set the rpm where you want it on the 2step box for what ever rpm you want to come off the clutch at......its easy to change the rpm.

so if your at the strip on slicks & want to come out at 7000rpm,you set it there on the 2step box.

if your on the street with street tires then set it lower or where ever works for that situation.
