Default Better 60 time is this a bad idea?

Last year I ran 275 40 17 MT ET DRs & got decent 1.6 60 times but inconsistent as sometimes spinning due to the short & stiff radial. My plan this year is to run something with more sidewall & flex, ET street bias on some stock 16x8 firebird wheels, which I just picked up. I might add a 100 shot later in the season too. I dont want to run a 28 inch tire, will lose some gearing. A 27 inch tire would be ok but couldnt find a 27 inch tire in a 16. From the search I did looks like I am limited with the 16x8 wheel to run a 26x10.5x16, that only has a 8.4 inch tread width compared to the 10 inch tread I was running with the 17s. Will this work or do I need to shell out the big bucks on 15 inch wheels that will clear the calipers so I can run a 10 inch wheel?

If you can get a wider tire for the 16 inch wheel, do it. If you have a stick car the bias ply, especially with the shock and added power nitrous will give you will work better.... Especially if your track prep isn't great

The 26x11.5/16 ET street is wider, approx 10" tread width.

Don't run that tire on a 8" wheel. It will suck on the big end. The wheel is to narrow. I've been there and have the shirt.

Hossier makes a true slick that will work on an 8" wheel its 28x10x16. Its the only one that I know of. What gears are you running? I have 4.11's and have cut 1.3's with it. You will need to do some minor trimming on the rear of the wheel well .

Kinda figured that.

Running 4.11s. Dont really wanna do any trimming on the car. I am gonna wait til I get my Monster 3 & QT bell installed & see how my funds are. It would save me quite a bit as I got these wheels cheap but I dont want to spend $500+ on tires & tubes if its not gonna work. If I do get 15s I will go with some 27x11.5x15s. Thanks for all the suggestions.
