Aftermarket gas tank and stock style exhaust?

Aftermarket gas tank and stock style exhaust? Is anyone running an aluminum aftermarket gas tank with the stock style exhaust where the muffler goes under it. Just wondering if the muffler sits far enough away from the gas tank to do this with safety issues. If it does get close can i wrap the muffler with heat tape and still be safe while doing it. This is on a 2000 camaro.
