Default /rant Lost .4 off my E.T. need help.

Let me start off by saying i ran my '98 z28 with slp lid and slp LM catback sometime in february with the stock 16" wheels and balding falken tires at moroso motorsports park in south florida and i ran a 13.47@103.22 with a 2.08 60'.

I was having traction issues with the 16's and lowsy street tires so i upgraded to a set of chrome SS 10 spokes with 275 nittos all around and the backs were drag radials. so last night i went to the track and i have to admit it was pretty hot out and it was packed so i only got 3 runs. they are as follow.

1st - heat dr's up for about 5 seconds, rev to 1500rpm 60' - 2.196
1/8 - 9.09
mph - 81.04
1/4 - 13.949
mph - 100.94
i hooked pretty good that time so i decided to rev it a little higher to about 1700rpm and that netted me - 60' - 2.217
1/4 - 13.928
mph - 101.3
still terrible 60' and 1/4, but it was getting slightly better and i still barely spun.

Last run of the night i decided im going heat these baby's up good and rev to about 2k and dump the brake. that got me a 60' - 2.110
1/4 - 13.828
mph - 100.65
still barely spinning.

Now what i dont get is, that my trap speeds were pretty inconsistent, and the fact that i lost 2 mph off of when i ran in february. I made no changes to my car other than the chrome SS wheels and drag radials. i ran the nittos at 18psi. is there anyway chrome wheels could knock 2 mph off my trap and nearly .5 off my e/t ? what is going on here i understand it was a little hotter as well but damn. thanks alot for the help guys.

sounds like one of two problems:
You're clutch sucks, or you are expecting 17" nitto DR's to hook up like slicks. If the car is barely spinning, i'd push it toward you're clutch not getting the job done. Also, looks like 103 isn't too great for a M6 car. What was the weather like that day? i see you said it was pretty hot, so that may have something to do with your mph....

i think he has an a4 not m6. i think it was a combination of being hot/humid and a very little from the tires/wheels. i still don't know why you would have to do a burnout to get radials to hook at the track with stock stall/gears. i would reccomend some rear LCA's, panhard, t/a, sub-frames, and possibly some relocation bracktes.

They're Nitto Drag radials. i read alot of info in the tire tech section it said to spin them for 8-10 seconds, they really do hook up better when they're heated.

yea but there is about no reason for your car to have traction problems at the track on about any 275/40 tire with a little suspension work. i never took mine to the track *bone* stock, it had the same mods as you + lakewood LCA's, sub-frames, and a panhard. i dead hooked kumho's and cut high 1.9's every pass. just stall it to 1500 and floor it.

Yep stall it up and floor it. it'll get you off the line nicely.
