My friend recently bought a 93 cobra 5speed and kept on claiming that his car would beat my 99 A4 TA. he has exaust, H pipe, shortys, short shifter, and aluminum i think drive shaft,and a cold air intake. We raced on the freeway 60-120 and he took me by a couple cars, but then we went from some lights about 5 times and i got him by no less than a car every time ???? He says hes getting slicks and some "go fast secrets" no nos. So what do you guys think, who will win. Its a set race, Im just wondering what the outcome will be and do you guys have any little secrets to help me out

I am VERY surprised that he beat you from a roll but not from a stop. Be careful he may be sandbagging, especially if you've got money on this race. Do you have any money to get any mods before you run at the track? Do you have any now? I would NOT put money against that car at the track if he is going to be running slicks vs. you on street tires. Just my .02 cents.

Yeah the race is this friday and i have cash for a couple mods like 500-800 bucks. What do u mean sandbagging? I was thinking of throwing on LTs just dont think i have the time to do it.

Sandbagging means he didn't show all that his motor has. I think you might be out of $300 this weekend. Seeing how he's getting slick plus a few mods. Maybe you can bump the race up another week and get you a few mods or just hope and pray it rains

A good go fast secret is a stroker kit. Looks like a 302 from the outside but on the inside it can be a 331 or a mean 347. Get some sticky tires and tell him you'll race him but only if he's on radials, not drag radials and run from a dig. -Mark

You've got 500-800 bux?? One word....NITROUS, go buy a kit but don't let him know you have it...bump the race money up to $500 bux and spray the **** out of him. Hit him with a 150 wet shot just for good measure. He won't know what the HELL just happened to him.

Sounds like a good plan but we agreed no nitrous. I seriously think mycars faster just the slicks are what have me worried. Ill try to record the race. So what kind of hp do u think this guy's pushing?

Ok well you say you have 800 bux?? I'll re-think what I said earlier about the N20 then. Go get a TCI SSF3500 stall and some BFG drag radials and go BUST HIS *** wide open!

Well, I don't claim to be the expert authority on what certain mods to power wise to stangs so I'll let someone else chime in here. I will say though, he doesnt need NEAR as much power as you do to be quick. Those fox body stangs are fairly light weight and with some good gears and tires can be HELLA fast out of the hole, which is why I suggested you get some DRs of your own. Good luck and be sure to get it on film!

you are about to lose $300 bucks... if he beat you that bad from 60-120 and you only got him by 1 car from light to light then prepare for a loss.. if he puts slicks on his and adds a few things then he will get you out of hole/light to light/and on the highway...

get LTs if you have time, leave them dumped if you want

Not much time to make your car a whole lot faster, but tires would help from a dig.

Since you are A4 and he is a 5 speed I would concentrate on thinking of a real good way to mess with his head, and get him to mess up on the shifts. Since you guys are fairly close, it should be up to how good he drives under the pressure (depending on what else he is getting)

im stock, but a buddy of mine beat him by about half a car with a 02 roush, 3 times in the 1/4 and i got him by about 2 cars( the roush) and i think the only reason he got me on the freeway was because i was in 4th gear while he down shifted and had a hard pull it was a way diffrent story when we went from about 30 ii would let him get the jump and i would still pass him like nothing but when we hit around 100 he would creap a little and i would just stay a car ahead im thinking of getting a lid asap, run without the filter, and im gona try to get some slicks of my own, and im trying to think of a something fast to get a little edge

Do a lid WITH filter, the free ram air mod, and put a cutout on the I pipe.

You can also port and polish the throttle body yourself for a few more ponies

what rear gears do you have a nice stall,3.73 and some DRs would work nice from a dig or a roll. If you could get them installed cheap or do it yourself it would cost you under 800$ maybe.

im determined that he has 2 have a lil more done to the car now than he says he does...the 93 cobra is like 230hp car with those mods he has maybe like 250 at the wheels...i figured u would beat that car pretty bad from a roll....they are like 14.6 cars maybe not even that good. but i agree with these guys do what u can do b4 the race and just see what happends
