Need some help with harness to pass tech!!!! Please come inside!!!
I'm wondering if I can "legally" drill a hole in the bottom of the main bar and put a bolt through the hole to bolt my drivers side lap belt to it?
Or should I weld a bolt end to the bottom of the bar and bolt the lap belt to the bar that way? Would that be legal too?
How did you guys mount the lap belt sections of your 5 point harnesses? And what is legal?
I don't want to drill a hole in my cage if it will compomise the integrity forcing me to put another roll bar in it. But I would think that a drilled hole with bolt would be much stronger than a welded bolt to bolt it too!!!
Thanks!!!

you can either weld a tab with a hole in it to the bar, or you can drill a hole in the cage and put a sleeve through the roll cage. Find a sleeve that has the I.D. as your bolt, and drill the cage to the O.D. of the sleeve. then weld the ends of the sleeve to the cage as it passes through both ends

weld the tab to it or normally we bolt the lap belts to the stock seat belt holes... sometimes we'll make brackets that mount to those holes with the stock belts still installed and then the 5 point lap belt bolts to those brackets..

I vote tab also, we will do just about anything NOT to drill a tube.
Remember it's better to pull against the bolt, not the nut.
My humble opinion.

I have mine mounted to the stock belt holes. Was a bitch to find the correct belt, needed bolt hole lap belts and retention shoulder mounts. The shop just ended up pulling the belts I needed to match.
