Default Searched but,......Approx. how tall of a rear tire without triming?

On my 2000 SS how tall of a tire should I be able to get away with, without it getting into the rocker in front of the rear tires, or getting into the bumper cover.

28", or smaller????

I will be running a CME rear valance likely on this car at some point so I can see that will unfortunately take away a little more clearance as well.

Just thought I'd ask those who have been there already.

My car needs tires soon and has horrible traction so I'm planning to run some taller Drag Radials and will disable the ABS as needed. Also, will be running 4.30's so looking to nock the rpm back down just a touch and mph up.

Any input/help really appreciated..........

I think some guys are running 28" tires without trimming. It probably helps to have adjustable lca's and panhard. I had 28x9 ET Drags on my car (actually 27.3" tall) without any clearance issues, but they were pretty close to the bumper cover, about a 1/4 inch away.

A 28" bias ply seems to be kinda hit or miss since they grow on the big end. You should be fine with a 28" drag radial though.

Cool, thanks guys.

Another related question.

When I see cars with slicks launch you often see the rim dig down into the slick towards the rear of the car throwing alot of tire forward. Which explains ofcourse why for years I've seen cars with slicks having the rocker/wheelwell opening trimmed in front of the tire down at the rocker area.

Do the drag radials toss forward much on the launch? And is the growth at speed more centered front to rear or do you still have a need for more clearance towards the front. Ofcourse, having just asked that I'm thinking about what happens when you get out of it at speed to.

With DR's should I be worrying about more clearance needed to the front or rear? Or just roughly equal, at rest measured clearance.

Thanks

And, what should I be considering a safe at rest clearance with DR's?

Radials don't grow any measurable amount (at least at 145 in the 1/8th) I would venture to say that if you had about 3/8" clearance, they would never rub (all heim joint suspension I presume).

What about a 28" tall MT E/T street on a 15X8 wheel?
