Default QA1 R Series VS Strange Coil Overs

am going to install Coil Overs on my 2000 Formula & have heard through the Grapevine that Strange Shocks seem to Out shine the QA1 Shocks on consistantacy & just over all quailty?

What is everyone experience with the QA1 R Series Coil Over Shocks? Good Bad

The Strange are cheaper but I am not worried about the price, I am more concerned with the Quailty & performance of the Coilover Shock I use?

Please dicuss?

I'm running QA1-Rs up front and I'll soon be using them out back, as well. Couldn't be happier! I have no personal experience with the Strange, however.

Did your 60ft time improve & how is the Quality of the shocks & do they leak at all? Also how is the handling if you ever drive on the street. Does the car feel solid at 70 on the hwy?

I have the QA1 "R"s with 275lb springs up front. I couldn't be happier with them. Next to my big converter it is the best mod I have done to the car. The QA1 "R" and Strange's are similar shocks and will net close to the same results. Now if you were comparing an AFCO to a QA1 single adjustable, that's a different story.

Stranges are not cheaper..

Maybe you are comparing QA1-Rs to Strange Single Adjustables..

But Strange Double Adjustables, which would be QA1R similar are more expensive...

Yep.. a 1500hp twin turbo "427" on pump gas is a nice setup too, and i bet EVERYONE not just madman agrees.

That does not mean everyone has the budget to do it..

QA1 Rs are 185.00 Aprox
Strange DAs are 250.00 Aprox
AFCOs are 375.00 Aprox..

All in all, when you buy 4 of them.. it makes a huge number...

SEB said that price isn't a concern, he says he has aspirations to run 5s in the 1/8 at some point, get the best or replace what you got later.

How many people get just the fronts and do the rears later? Also who has the best prices on them?

I have the QA1 'R' guessing thats the old one as apposed to the 'F'

I have pulled 1.40 60's with them and 1.42's consistently, but now I am beginning to think that they took a ****. Before when set on the looser side I was able to blip the throttle and the nose flew up in the air, but last few times out at the track and driving around they have not been doing that. Before when set on loose the car would feel floatie on the highway, now it seems to be just as stiff as before.

I dunno... can they just go bad in a few weeks?

Maybe its time to upgrade to the 'F's

Strange double adjustables (S5069) are not simliar to the QA1 'R' (RC7855P). QA1 'R' are still single adjustable, just that they have a fixed compression compared to the regular QA1 (OED7855P). The Strange single adjustables (S5269) are simliar to the QA1 'R', and the Strange double adjustables are similiar to the QA1 double adjustables (DOE7855P). In all cases, Strange is less expensive than their QA1 counterparts.

The QA1 'R' is the new one and is designed for drag racing where it still has the 12-way adjustable rebound, but has a firm fixed compression. The original QA1 is the Gen F and has a 12-way adjustable rebound and compression, where each adjustment changes both. The QA1 'R' is only around 10 bucks more. If you want to upgrade, you'll have to upgrade to a double adjustable.

How do the strange act on the street for hooking. Have to soften them up a bit in the rear compared to the track? I am more worried about hooking on the street with a drag radial than the track. The track I can tweek more, and then there is that VHT which helps..

I got a deal on a full set of strange SA that are waiting to go on, I just want to get to the track and see how they hook on my new Bogarts and ET streets then I want to start installing them so I can see how the car reacts with my sussp. Kinda waiting on a K-member up front also.

I may still return the front SA for some DAs up front.. depending.

thanks for the info Joe. I heard the strange shocks can be rebuilt if they go bad and the Qa1's cannot. Is there any truth to that?
