Default Daily Drivers with a Cage, come on in!

hey guys,

I'm torn between the idea of putting a cage in my WS6, since its mint, 21k miles on it....i don't want to cut it up for a cage

or buying a cheap 4th gen and starting all over again and make it a drag car only

I'm not at the track that often but it does make more sense to put a cage in my car...I just don't want to cut up the dash and all that crap

plus then I'd need a 5 point if I get into the 10's, and I don't want to change the stock seats

ugh, help me out guys!

You just need a 6pt (well 5pt actually) roll bar for down to 10.0, unless its a convertable so you dont have to touch the dash. You can get swingout/removeable door bars and if you arent racin the car take them out.

5pt harness will work fine with the stock seats.

oh thats awesome news

i was afraid i'd have to go through the dash by the A pillars

what company do you recommend looking at? I could do it myself but its probably worth my time to just buy it lol. I think the swinging door bars would be great

i looked at wolfe's site, but the have cages, and roll bars, so i'm a little confused on which one i would need

on wolfe's website you would need a roll bar.....it is the 6pt....the cage means 10pt and goes through the dash

Nope......you already need a helmet to race, a cage gets you all the way to a 10.0

Buy a bolt in so you can take it out (easier) later.

the mild steel 6pnt from wolf is 20lbs heavier than the moly.

not sure about it but moly may be stronger if you were looking to strenthen chassis but that all depends on the thickness. I am not sure about that one.

I believe so

getting the bar welded in will probley cost you more than that. for installation of the weld in expect about $600 or more for the moly weld in not sure about the cost of the mild still weld in

If I had the money that I have spent on my car before I bought it. I would have bought a cheap 4th gen and started from there or bought a tube chassis car. But it depends on what kind of racing you want to do and how serious you are about racing. You could also start with a roller.

but if you are like me you don't have all the money at once and have to do stuff a little at a time so you can still race.

yulp one thing at a time

I mean right now I can't even go to the track "legally" w/o a cage, 11.99 rule

$810 for a bolt in, mild steel, swing outs on both doors and shipping. $1110 for CM

ouch

FWIW its 11.49 and down these days for a roll BAR, 9.99-8.50 for a roll CAGE but some tracks have their own rules.

I had a wolfe bolt in chrome moly and ran all over the country and even the NHRA guys never said anything. I never even welded the down bars to the main hoop..

The bolt in Wolfe takes a couple hours to put in and comes powder coated, its a really nice fitting product. And its just drilling holes so its not that painful.

And swingouts are legal even on cages down to 8.50 as long as hey are properly done, NHRA anyhow.

I'm picking up my 6 point this Friday from Stenod. Check them out also. I know in the past wolfe had some long wait times, don't know if they still do. I know I called Stenod Monday and am picking it up Friday.
