Default ET Drags.... L8 vs L4 Compound

A lot of us use the M/T ET Drags with the L8 compound. Per M/T website it says for general use. But I wondered if anyone has tried using the L4 compound. It says its a softer compound than the L8. My 3yr old slicks have had it so I'm thinking of getting a new set in the L4 compound. Anyone ever used the L4's? Thanks. -Mark

I wish I could. 28's will kill my car. All the fast N/A 4v 4.6's are using a 26" w/ 4.56's. I wish I had the power to turn the 28's. DHII was an eye opener telling my that my 3yr old slicks have had it. -Mark

3 years old? I'd say you got your $'s worth from them! Usually the sidewall breaks down before the tires are bare on cars with 1.5 or better 60 foot times.

The stiff sidewall slicks help certain cars, but remember they can "rebound" and not take as much of the initial "hit" like a regular slick.

Derek- they still have a lot of tread left in them looking at the depth indicators. But the last 2 outings I had to put CTS tire softener on them to get them soft again. I suspect that the sidewalls are trashed since I had to lower my launch rpm to keep from spinning. I was going 1.55-1.58 for the last 2 years then the last race it went 1.62 to 1.66 and the prep was killer too. Oh well. Time to buy some new ones. -Mark
