Default Went 4 rounds in a 1st gen Camaro

I went to TAD(Temple Academy Dragway) on Sunday to get some seat time in a auto footbrake car. The Hot Rod will soon be a A3.

The Hot Rod I was driving is a very sweet machine. It is a black 1969 Camaro with a turbo 350 and 327 chevy motor. (Thanks Chuck for letting me race one of your Hot Rods)

I made it to the 4th round.

I was on the tree very hard yesterday;
1st round .503
2nd round .505
3rd round .507
4th round red light with a .497. I ran a 1 over on my 7.59 dail in. Oh well thats Drag Racing. :p

I think, I have the feel of driving a auto footbrake Hot Rod. What I have found out is, when you feel the rearend lift you are on the converter just right. When you see the 3rd yellow, drop the hammer.

I hope to have my Hot Rod back together by this weekend. The next 3 weekends are going to be very busy with racing. This Saturday Bracket race at Sealy(Lone Star Raceway), Sunday & Monday Super 10's at Ennis(Texas Motorplex). The 30th, 31st of May & June 1st IHRA divisonal meet(Lone Star Raceway) and then June 6th, 7th & 8th Super 10's in San Antonio.

I hope everyone else had as goodtime like I did this weekend. I just love to race!

Good luck to everyone and stay safe.

Great RT's Coach. Especially in an unfamiliar car. Great racing man.

Congrats Coach!! I made it to the 3rd round in my first race for the IHRA Summit Super Series a couple weeks ago. My advancing was probably more based on luck, but hey, a win is a win.

That's exactly what I found works best for me as well. BTW, Those RTs are awesome! I think I remember reading some posts about this before, but do you use a Practice Tree at home? I was messing with it for the first time last night and had some questions...

Congrats on going three rounds.
You are right a win is a win!
Yes, I use a practice tree everyday. What questions do you have about practice trees? :p

Coach,
Congrats on nailing the tree! My question is, why are you going auto after racing with a manual tranny? I'll admit there are not many manuals left in bracket racing (not including stock & super stock) and you seem to do pretty well with a stick. so why the change?

Thanks Derek,

I hurt a brand new motor the 1st race of the year(only 10 1/8 mile passes).
My new Liberty T-56 trans kicked out of 3rd gear a zinged the motor. This has caused me to only to race my Hot Rod once this year. I have missed 7 points races. Now, I have raced but not in my Hot Rod.

I bracket race alot. I need my Hot Rod to stay together. I dont win any money when Iam down. :p

I want to go top ET racing(tranz-brake and delay box) and HR & S/ST(IHRA & NHRA 10.90 index) next year. So I need the tubro 350 with the traz-brake.

I noticed that if I just had it set up for a .500 sportsman tree and "took off" on the 3rd yellow, I would always red light. I then decided to read the instructions and saw the info. about setting a "rollout" (the amount of time it actually takes your car to leave the stage beam on the starting line after you tell it to "go"). I just set it at the .32 they suggested, but how does one determine what their actual "rollout" is?

Ask you track offical what the roll out is on their track or measure it yourself when your track has some down time.

I use the .32 also. I do have to put some delay in my practice tree or I will red light every time.

zinged the motor? I don't want to sound like an ***, but you don't have a rev limiter? bummer it just did that though, and I'll admit cutting a good bulb on a pro-tree with a foot rake car is hard enough, let alone doing it consistently with a stick. Good luck with the new trans man!

Thanks man,

Yes, I had the limiter set at 7,400 rpms but it still took the motor to 8,000 rpms. All is forgiven now. I just want to get the Hot Rod to the track with the new set-up.

I new she was hurt bad when I heard the ticking noise from the motor at the top end of the track.

She should be back together next weekend for the IHRA divisonal at Lone Star Raceway Park.
