Default Installing cage ... need help with 5-point harness install

Moderators: I know this isn't the proper location but I figured the guys who can answer my question come here ... could leave this up for a little while and move it in a day or so after a few replies? Thanks

Anyway, I am installing my 6-point cage and need some information on how to set-up the 5-point harnesses. There isn't any hardware that came with the belts that look like they can be welded to the cross bar. Or do you just wrap the belts around the roll cage cross bar? Please, please, please post some pictures, tips or anything that would help me figure out what to do!!!

Also, how do you attached to the stock seat belt locations?

I weld a tab on the crossbar behind the seat. This tab has a 1/2 hole for your seat belt. You should also have some tabs that go on the end your lapbelts, just open the hole up slightly and use your stock seat belt holes and bolts. The crotch belt needs to be mounted to the floor under the seat. Just drill a 1/2 hole in the floor and bolt it down.

Steve, this is the right section for your question...

What kind of harness did you get? If you got a "wrap-around" style, nothing needs to be done to the rollbar itself... The shoulder harnesses just wrap around the bar. If the ends of the shoulder harnesses have a metal tab on them, then you'll have to weld a tab on the rollbar (like Madman said).

Ditto on Madman's comments on the lapbelts and crotch strap...

thanks guys ... I have the RCI belts, looks like they will wrap around the bar. Fit the other hold downs in last night.

Cage is installed and looks good ... just trying to paint it but the humidity is too high (100%) and it isn't coming out well. Gonna have to wait for better weather to finish up.

Steve, I installed my RCI harness awhile back. Vic welded two studs on the cage for the shoulder belts and I used the factory seat belt hole for the thigh belts. For the crotch strap, I just drilled a hole in the floorboard and used a high quality bolt with two washers. It has worked out well for me so far.

I do agree with letting Randall paint it. He did mine and it looks DAMN good.

Give me a call if you need some help.

Thanks Jason.

Paint job at Vics would likely cost more than the cage itself ... been down that road too many times to get sucked in again
