Default 5.3L+224R 323hp/302tq

Local performance shop had a dyno day and the Nova laided down 323hp and 302lbft! Not shabby for a junkyard motor!

Details:
-2001 5.3 with 110K’ish miles
-Flexfuel intake and 36lb/hr injectors
-4” custom air intake, K&N
-Ebay 3rd gen SS headers, 1 ¾” Primary, 3” collectors
-3” straight pipes to Thrust mufflers dumped at the axle
-Rebuilt TH350
-2000RPM converter
-Original 2.73 gears
-TSP224R .581”/.581” 112LSA
-Comp Chromoly 7.400” pushrods
-Comp 918 springs

Last summer with a Demon 750DP and dual plane it made 310hp/300tq. The 2 dynos are overlaid for comparison. I gained on the peak numbers, but am loosing a little in the mid-range. Tuning suggestions? Enjoy and thanks!

Looks good. I doubt you'll get that bottom as high as the duel plane intake though.

Why didn't you go with a custom cam spec'd for your needs? Patrick G or Martin @ TICK would been a logical choice in my book.

Do you plan on any other mods? How much has your mileage increased by going EFI?

If I was running a car intake maybe I’d believe the dual plane intake, but I doubt the ugly, long runner truck intake is the main culprit chopping off the mid-range legs. My tuning buddy and I are going to play with fuel and timing chasing the last few ponies. And yes a custom cam cut would be preferable, but it’s just not in the budget, I picked up the 224 used on here for cheap. In the future I may consider a custom grind, but I am stiff making changes to the chassis. Soon I’ll be swapping to 3.73 gears, and in the next couple years I’m planning a T56 swap.

Do you know what the timing and fuel are set to?

Nice! There is no flexfuel intake its the injectors that are different thats pretty much it. You either have 75mm 3 bolt tb or 4 bolt 87mm throttle body
My 06 silverado 4x4 stock exhaust no bolt ons
03 5.3 i put flat tops in it, 10.5:1 compression tfs stage 1 cam 216-220 .560lift 114lsa tfs pushrods stock rockers
5.3 heads with a simple bowl port job 1.9-1.5 valves, stock 75mm intake and tb
It made 305rwhp 310rwtq in 2nd gear 3400stall unlocked 3.42 gears 265/70/17 tire, Mustang Dyno, its out now getting a bigger cam, ported AFR 205's,headers, and TBSS intake setup and 11.5:1 comp, going for 400+rwhp
