Default Pacesetter LTs and TSP Catted Y Dyno

I took my car, an 01 WS6 M6, to Young's Performance in Decatur, Alabama (www.youngsperformance.com) to put the car on the rollers to see what she would do. My brother, Travis Quillen, an employee of Young's, did 99% of the header/y-pipe install as my left arm is currently in a sling. Lane Culver of Culver Automotive and Hinson Supercars fame came by and worked some magic with HP Tuners after the install. We made a total of 10 pulls and got some good numbers, although my "final tune" numbers are a little lower than they really are, as this pass was made after the engine was thoroughly heat soaked. We figure on 5-7 extra hp and tq across the board on a cold engine. Anyways.

The baseline run was made with the following mods: MTI airlid/K&N airfilter, Flowmaster American Thunder Catback, and Royal Purple 5w30 Synthetic. The car made 320 peak hp at 5590 rpm. Peak torque was 334 at 4377. Air/Fuel ratio was OK up until about 4900rpm when it started to richen up significantly. At 5000 the A/F was 12.2 all the way to 5900 when it fattened up even more to 12.1.

Stock exhaust manifolds, Y-pipe, and spark plugs were then yanked and replaced with Pacesetter LTs, TSP catted Y, and NGK TR55 plugs. Install was slow but sure and was acheived in about 5 hours with the help of a lift and the old blue nosed wrench Another couple of pulls were made back to back, resulting in a peak of 339 hp at 5548rpm and peak tq of 350 at 4025rpm. Overall we were pretty impressed with the untuned numbers: over 320 hp from 4900 - 6075, and over 330 from 5161 - 6021. Torque curve is flat as a table: over 340 lb/ft from 3218 - 5088. The car was still rich after about 5500 rpm, but just a hair better than the baseline. It never got under 12.2.

Lane Culver then came by and began tuning the car with HP tuners. We encountered a lot of problems with the timing due to the knock sensor at about 5200 rpm, but finally got it flattened out by taking a degree or 2 out. Funny thing was, the more we tried to lean out the upper end and get the A/F more around 12.5 or so, the less power it made. We put the fuel back in it and the curves looked really good. At one point during the tuning I made 343 hp and 357 tq. My final tune shows 340hp and 352 tq, but like I said earlier, that was the 6th out of 6 pulls in a row. We're figuring somewhere around 345-347 hp and 360-362 tq on a cooler engine.

Overall, great day at the dyno. My brother tells me his dyno is one of the most conservative ones around, and seems to think it would pull even higher at another dyno. I'm pretty happy with the numbers as-is. I have the dyno sheets and all the raw data I can show for anyone who is interested; I just have to install the SuperFlow WinDyn program on my computer and I'm not at home yet. I'll get to that sometime next week.

Have any of the graphs to post? I've been looking into Pacesetters vs stock manifolds, but I really want to know about the low RPM numbers (2500-4500).

I'll get my graphs out and check the numbers for you. I still haven't loaded the program on my computer (just got back last night)

Pretty nice numbers. I just bought the Pacesetters and the TSP off road Y pipe. I would be happy with similar results.

Your mods are very similar to mine; you should see gains in the same neighborhood as I did. Do you have an LS6 intake manifold on your car? With the ORY, you might actually make a couple more than with my catted-y.

I don't have the LS6 intake yet, but it is one of my planned mods.

You should like your header/Y combo. Sound is great (although I haven't heard it with the Borla) and power gain is awesome. Hook that intake up, too.

Here's my graphs. The first is my peak run, and the overlay is the tuned run over the peak run. The peak hp and torque numbers drop off, but as stated that's because of heat soak. The curves look a lot better after the tuning. Sorry the colors are the same, I'm still fooling with the software; you get the idea though.

Very cool, thanks for posting the graphs! Do you have you stock dyno to compare too and see where you gained?

I will let you know how it sounds with a Borla. I will definitely get the intake later on.

I do have the baseline dyno, but I'll have to upload it when I get home tonight. I'll overlay the tuned graph and the baseline for you.

Here is the overlay. Keep in mind the tuned numbers are low.
