I worked for a company called Lam Systems for 3 summers and did all that stuff there. If you were closer, I wouldn't have a problem with doing it lol. It's pretty easy to learn yourself though.

I'm that *******!

How do you know the motherboard took a ****? A lot of times on the Inspirons it's just a hard drive.

I actually have 2 Inspiron 1520s myself. I'm not sure what the motherboards are going for, but I remember the laptops themselves only ran me around $4-500 last Fall. For a year old machine the cost of a motherboard + installation + time to reload programs might exceed a newer laptop. (Just looked it up.....Motherboards for those are around $300 + shipping.)

Shoot me a PM and we can make sure that's the problem and maybe figure a way to save you a few bucks.

I have also repaired motherboards in the past. Many times a failed MB is due to a cold or damaged solder joint on the MB which can be repaired with a $10 soldering iron. Before you waste 300 on a MB might want to check it out.

As for removing ther MB, it is not too difficult, the trick is locating all the screws you need to remove and be gentle with the laptop.
