LS3 vs. L92 for turbo setup
search five different ways and i'm sure its been covered but i cant seem to find it.
which motor would handle decently large amounts of boost the most reliably and make the most efficiant power?
the ls3 is naturally a performance oriented motor but i'm thinking that the l92 w/ vvt could do some amazing things w/ an FI application... not only that wouldn't the iron block be able to handle more boost compared to the aluminum one in an ls3? i know i would need to do things like a good blower cam and injectors and definately a better intake. i havent looked in a while but last time i checked MAST was the only people making a vvt cam but i think the only one they had was a NA cam. i would like to be able to run 12-15 lbs w/ forged crank, rods, pistons.... and be able to turn it to 17-18 w/ meth.
i can pick up a used l92 longblock for 3000ish but i havent been able to find a used ls3 for less than 5000 which is dumb since i can get it new for 5300
would there be any perks of the ls3 over the L92 to warrent spending an extra 2000$ JUST for the motor

I cant say for sure but id imagine the LS3 can take enough boost with forged internals jsut as good as the L92. the iron block may be good if you wanted to run a lot of boost but 18psi max isnt to terribly high. The ls3 has a lot of little things different from an ls2 and those took boost fairly well also

so basically if i can pick up an low mileage l92 for under 3000 i should jump on it?... seeing as i'll be upgrading the intake, tb, and rotating assembly right?
also is the vvt going to make any kinda substantial difference when it comes to having a turbo or should i look @ a traditional blower cam setup
