1000hp which block to go with
Just looking to get some input. Im building a turbo set up for my 96 camaro ss and the Lt1 well... needs to be upgraded. I was going to buy a block and was looking to go with the ls2 alum. but from what I see on here a lot of guys are using the lq9 iron block for boosted app. the goal is to make 1000hp to the rear wheels. any info would be great thanks alot

Ive heard alot of people using the Alum. but my personal opinion the Iron Block is better. Its a little heavier but I think Stronger. If you have to Bore it a few times its no big deal either, you can only bore an Alum block very little before you have to re-sleeve it. Go with the Iron....

please have proven ally block to hold this power level. iron would be safer but it depends on what you want.
if i was you i would spend alot of time on here looking what other pwoplw are doing/have done. also are you building the engine or having someone else do it? if your getting it built then speek to the guys doing it.
Cheers

Iron block is worth the add'l weight. If you have a problem, you can bore and hone the block, throw a new set of pistons in and be on the road. Yes you can sleeve an alum block, but check the cost before you consider that an "out". Alum. blocks incur bore distortion, sleeve cracks etc. Not worth the weight savings IMO.

erl ls2 blocks have run 7's i believe but they are expensive. In my street car I will only run aluminum blocks. the 98's are a little tougher if done right. But I am extremely into street traction/performance & have my car set with just the right amount of front/rear bias.

not looking to dump to much money on the block like the LSX, WARHAWK, ect. If i can do it with a iron block and save money there that would leave me more to play with else where. would also like to run big cubes so i dont have to run really high boost to make it as streetable as possiable.

i would go aluminum, it does not matter if you go around corners or drag race, you don't want too much weight at the front. and factoring in all the turbo piping and the turbo itself it would be a good idea to consider aluminum block.
