Default hight temp RTV for head to manifold gaskets

i picked up a set of fel-pro LT1 exhaust gaskets and they were WAY to small for the ports on my AFR 227 headed 383. a guy at a speed shop said i could just copper rtv around al the ports and headers. will this hold up with no gaskets?

Might be a different type but a muffler shop sealed the gasket on my long tube headers to X pipe with it and is stunk up the car. I litterly thought the car was burning up. I scraped it off and inserted straight copper gaskets. YMMV

I use as well as all the Ls1/rx7 guys with longtubes straight copper rtv as thats what the manufacturer requires. I was running the car for a while with just 2 bolts holding on either header (just the end bolts) and I didnt have any leaking whatsoever. I got the rest of the header bolts in as soon as I could but really didnt need them.

The high temp RTV works REALLY well
