Default What Gears

I am running stock cubed forged APS TT with a M6 transmission.

I was wondering what gears would work best here. the stock 3:42's are what's in it, but that rear end won't last forever. so do i want to go down numerically to 3:23's or up numerically to 3:73"

I've hear a lot of different opinions, also heard to stay where I am.

what do the voices of experience with turbo cars say?

Thanks in advance.
Steve

Are you staying six speed or going auto? I still like 3.73 in six speeds and especially off boost. Nicer to leave the lights for the clutch .4.10 are fun too . Now there is the traction problem .4.10 pretty much require drag tires 24/7.Even when stock . Even with 3.73 and your setup traction will be hard to come by. Doubt 3.42 would help that much either.
So you could go to 3.23 or even 2.73 or 3.08 something in the middle. They say it helps the turbos spool up from the load. Not sure about that. Would like to see some logs then could really know if its urban legend or not.
And I have seen guys hit 9s with autos and 4.10 gears with turbo cars.Guy on this forum with aps hit 9s and he had auto with 4.10 gears. Too bad the old boosted lists are gone they were very handy for comparing things like this.

I went to 3.54 since had no choice with my dana 60. Also going auto and 3400 stall and car has tons of bottom end as it is with the 3.42 and six speed so really don't need 3.73 or 4.10 with the auto.
As for quicker spool up my combo already has wicked fast spool up. I may step up to Louis bigger turbos over winter not too worried about a bit slower spool up.

So this is a big kettle of worms like turbo cams.
3.73 is for sure still ok if you are staying six speed. 4.10 you might have trouble going thru the traps at the speed you need or want to and might have to mess more with tire height etc. If its a street car then the 3.73 can be a nice gear.Auto I really like the feel of my 96 z. It has 3.42 gears with 2800 vig stall. Minor bolt ons and its got lots of bottom all you can use on street tires.

I will have some feedback in a couple weeks on the 3.54 but that is with the six speed still. I don't expect to notice much difference from 3.42 to 3.54 its not much change in ratio.

3.4-3.5 would be my guess.

6 speed forever man! when I go nuts with the thousand + hp build it'll be in an old super lightened 2nd gen camaro with a full cage an auto tranny.

Normal driving, no 6 speeds for me.

my other worry is how a set of 3:73s will effect top end Speed. ( by lowering it) i'd like to get 185 or 190 just for bragging rights on a mile track. 200 MPH would be amazing, but not sure it's possible.

Here is gear calculator.Unless you run taller tires then looks like top mph in fourth is 139 and top speed in fifth is 185. Not sure how much higher the car could do in sixth possibly it could do 200mph.

If you wanted more thru the traps or more in fifth then punch in some different numbers. this was also assuming the engine can be spun up to 7000. less rpm means less gear needed. Most even stock ls1 with decent springs can go 6800 no problem at least for short periods of time. I plan on 6500 as daily rpm limit on my 408 but would spin it to 7000 the odd time if need the mph.
