If you see gains by switching your fuel and nothing else, then your tune is off. If your asking if there is a gain in a FI engine by switching to a higher octane, then Yes there is. Running the higher octane will allow you to either bump up your timing or boost, either one will make more power.

It comes down to cylinder pressure and heat and detonation.
With pump gas, you have a very limited amount of both before you get detonation and have to stop adding boost and/or timing. Octane is essentially a measure of resistance to detonation.
With Race gas, you have more octane. This means you can have more cylinder pressure and temperature before you hit detonation. This means that you can run more boost and timing safely for more power.
Long story short, more octane means you can run a more effective tune safely. But just putting in a higher grade of fuel will generally not result in more power on an LSX platform.

if you need higher octane i would first get a meth system and use pump gas.
it will be cheaper the using race gas for the street. and meth will cool the aircharge and pump the octane level of the fuel.
