noob with a 5.3. building a bottom end
i have worked on a few LSx engines, but haven't had one to mess with for myself until now. Eventually it will get a single turbo, but that wont be for a few years. but since i already need to put the bottom end together i want to build it so that it will handle boost in the best possible way on stock parts.
So my question to you guys is what will be the strongest, and most boost friendly configuration utilizing stock parts? should i just use a LS1 rotating assembly and bore the block? 6.0L rods? Pistons?
Im sure ill change the set-up down the road after this, so if there will be a very costly route, i would rather not take it

but anyways, i would rather keep the one i have now. This will be the learning experience for me, so when i melt a piston it wont matter. what do you recommend for internals though bud?

Yeah it is more expensive, but had the better heads and better rods, plus will be 80lbs lighter. You'll have less money in it than you will throwing a 5.3 together with different internals, I just watched a guy I know do that and he ended up with a lot of money in a 5.3 bored out to ls1 specs with ls1 pistons/etc. The aluminum 5.3 will support more power also as it has the better rods(same as the ls2).

Im building a 5.3 turbo for my GN now.I ended up going with CP Pistons. Its not something I ever want to go back to.What are your goals. You might get away using stock internals with some arp studs and bolts.IMO if your staying within up to 600hp range.I would get a lm7 or an lq4.Hone it and ring gap correctly and you should be fine.I picked up a LM7 for 750$ running 33,000 miles on it.

LM7's are the best bang for your buck, Period. You can pick them up for around $300 all day long, and they will easily live to 500+ wheel horse. IMO, it's not worth the extra 700 dollars just to shave 80 lbs. Plus, If you screw something up and pop the engine, you're only out a few bengies, instead of a grand.
that's my .02

$700+ ? No way, I paid 600 for my L33 so $300 more which is worth it to me. The lm7 is fine, but around 700rwhp you'll start bending the rods, while the l33 has the better rods. Plus the better heads which if you end up hurting the bottom end you can sell the heads and get a decent chunk of change back.

If you could find me an L33 for 600 I'd buy it too......
