4L60E vs 4L80E higher rpm 800hp?
I spoke to a transmission shop who seemed to think that on a 800 hp high rpm (7000 rpm) motor that the 4L60E would hold up better than the 4L80E due to less rotating mass in the transmission. I would really like to hear from both sides of that arguement in regards to a 3000 lb vehicle spinning to 7000 rpms.
How many people out there are using a 4L80E and spinning to 7000 rpms with success? How many of you guys have 4L60E transmissions holding that much power and living?

my friends junkyard 80e in the turbo truck we built swings 7k all day long and it goes high 10s on a stock 4.8l turbo motor
makes over 600rwhp on 17lbs and we run it at the track on 20lbs

Mike Brown used to run one in his car to 8K and runs 8's with it in there. Look at Mighty Mouse. 8's Driven to and from the track that way. Id never consider a 4L60E to handle anything over 600HP and I just bought one for my GTO. Remember a 4L80 is pretty much a TH400 with Over drive.

I honestly felt there would be more people in the forced induction section making and needing a 700 hp capable transmission.
I plan on selling off the 4l60e core and build parts when/if I get them and getting a 4l80 from jakes. I am just debating now if I should get the ultrabell sfi bellhousing or just get a trans shield.

At that power level I would definately recommend a 4L80e. We have built 4L60e transmissions doing what you are wanting to do, but they have progressed into that power level over time. If they called and were already at that power level I would definately recommend an 80e.
A well built 4L80e would give you room to add power and be more reliable at that power level.
I'd recommend an ultrabell at that RPM just for safety sake.
Good luck with your build.
