I didn't get any help in the gen 4 section so I wanna get the Forced induction guys opinion.
Bought a gt45 a couple weekends ago.
had a miss during the summer.
found it to be a cracked piston and not a burned valve. Everything else looks good.
Motor is an 07 yukon DOD.
I planned on deleting dod and swapping cams for boost.

Should I build this into a forged 5.7?
Should I just pick another gen 4 from a wrecker?
Should I replace the single piston?
Should I just get forged pistons for 5.3l?

If the cylinder wall looks good still, just swap out a new piston. While you got it open, check and gap the top and second rings and put it all back together. Should be fine. Don't waste your money. These 5.3s are super tough (when not detonating). Con Rods are good to 1000+ hp as well as the pistons, if gapped. (Hot Rod mag gapped them to .028 in and Truckin Mag gapped them to .035 in, a little excessive). Both put down over 1200 hp w/ethanol, cam swap, heads, and intake. Bottom end was stock otherwise. (Google Big Bang theory 4.8 engine, or

If it was me and this was my daily driver or my weekend toy I would get a inexpensive drop in cam and a used piston and put back together and drive it.? Then get another 5.3 and put some forged stuff in it over time. When its finished swap the motors out and either sell the orginal one or keep it for a back up.

It's out of my boat. Won't get used until march/April. I think I'll try to swap the one piston for a new one. Then I can put a cam and springs in it and finish the turbo project.
