Default Bearing Clearance Iron Block 383 Turbo

Hi,

I'm having a nightmare I will try and explain best as I can...

I have an iron 383 that will be turbo...i looking for about .0025 to .003 on the mains. I have put some standard size Clevite Main bearings in and plastigauge them and im getting .0015 clearance.

I ordered some clevite H series bearings from Summit that were 0.10 now the crank won’t turn. On further reading it appears I may have ordered the wrong ones as these are stated as under-size on the summit website.

I'm getting really confused because I can’t find any bearings that are 0.10 oversize with a x in the part number anywhere. I can find one that real steel sell which are .001 bigger but that’s not going to get me in the range I need.

Am i getting confused?? Do I need oversized 0.10 to get me from 0.015 to 0.025.

Thanks in advance

Neal

If you need .0025 and have .0015, w/ stock size brgs, using the available .001's will give you the clearance you are looking for. You can also juggle the brg halves to get variations in clearance.

IMO, Plastigage is like "hand grenades and horse shoes"...Close is good enough. A dial bore gauge is the correct way to do this set up.

TROUGHS ARE THE BEARINGS YOU WANT..^^^
PROBABLY F'ED UP THE .0010 BEARINGS IF YOU TQ THEM DOWN,
.0025 WILL BE GOOD FOR 7K RPM
