Default My experience/opinion on non intercooled vs. intercooled E85

I put this on the bullet, but I decided to put it here too:

well I finally made a pass long enough to compare a few things this weekend at LSfest. Fastest 8th on a non intercooled (50/50 water denatured alcohol) setup was 7.0 @ 105. That was on 17-18 psi and 13*.

I blew it up twice between then and now and since then, I sold the meth kit, and I added an eBay a2w, 5 gallon igloo jug in the trunk, rule2000 bilge pump, and 36' of 1" hose. I thought I had it on the same boost, but after the pass and checking the log, it was 197kpa (13.8 psi). It was on 14-15* for that boost. That 8th mile was 7.0 @ 103.

Basically, I went 2mph slower, at 3-4 less psi, and 150lbs heavier. The iats without an intercooler were just under 200* at the traps. The iats with the a2w only went over 100* for a split second at the end of the 1/4 pass peaking at 108*.

Can non intercooled e85 work? Yes. But in my opinion, adding 150lbs and spending $200-$300 was well worth it. I have to figure out my voltage drop issue before I can make another pass as I lost complete power at about 115mph and 1100'. But next time out I'll have it on the same psi as the meth injection setup and I'll report my results.

P.S. I know I'm not reinventing the wheel, or doing anything groundbreaking. Just sharing my actual experience so someone else can make a decision based on my experience and not internet myths.
