Need input on gears for a 9" turbo car with auto
Got no help in the Gear & Axles forum.
Getting ready to order a moser 9" but cant decide on gears. Specs are below but haven't decided on a tire size yet. Any help would be appreciated. Car will be a weekend driver that will see the 1/4 mile 1 or 2 days month.
2004 LQ4
224r Cam 114 LSA
Built 4l60e (will be upgrading to built 4l80e next year)
7875 turbo 1.15 ar
Full weight car with a fatboy in the seat
Made just shy of 680 on 12psi
Graph is with 10 bolt and 3.73 gears
Looking for a good starting point, consensus seems to be 3.25 or 3.50. Not looking for a specific trap speed just a good gear to get down the track and drive around town

I run that trans with 325s and a 28inch tire, 3600 stall. I love the setup. Can't go wrong with what i have. If you don't plan on going over the 6xxwhp then a 350 would work just fine.

With a 28" tall tire and 3.25's, I trapped 140+ with a similar setup on 14-15 lbs. That was going through the traps around 6k if I recall. My fuel cutoff is 6,350 and it hits that at 146 or so in 3rd gear. My converter is a little loose but works well. I don't plan on spinning my engine any higher than that so I am going to 3.00 gear in mine, but also going with a bigger turbo.
So...depending on what you want out of the car, tire size, and how high you plan on spinning the engine, I think a 3.25 would work well. I drove around for a few months on 2.73's and honestly, I didn't hate them. Pulled hard on the highway but with my looser converter it was a little bit of an annoyance driving around town.

I agree with everyone that says 3.25's. I have 28x10.5" and 3.25 gears in mine and they worked perfect with the stock LQ4 at 6000rpm redline (140ish mph) and also great for the new engine (7000rpm) and tight converter 160+ mph should not be an issue.
Also 3.25's will be nicer on the highway if that matters ... good luck.
